What is the secret to success for a small salon owner?
If we are talking about big corporations vs small businesses we are talking about two totally different worlds.
Small salon owners, suite renters, chair renters and even small chain salons need to be aware of what the actual cost of business is.
I have found the real secret to success is low over head.
Keeping the rent, lease or even mortgage at bay.
Paying attention to how much working costs you.
Most salon owners are working to work,
It’s the unfortunate truth and most are in debt.
I know this because I was in debt and decided to lower my overhead, my team and reel it in.
Its our only saving grace to winning at this thing called entrepreneurship.
You have to be intimate with your money, Pay attention to it, Love it, and respect it,
Checking on your money often can send out a message that you care about what’s happening and not just ignoring the money.
So many stylists (we women are notorious for giving up control to our husbands or the men in our life because we don’t trust ourselves enough to take over) don’t like or it doesn’t cone easy to the about all the numbers…
But we have to become business women and men to be successful.
If your salon biz is a amazon type structure and your are pulling in millions maybe this is not meant for you.
But…
If you are a small owner or independent stylist, making sure your overhead is low, your work is impeccable and your experience you offer is gold you should be thriving in 2023.
Don’t be scared to negotiation a lower price on your interest rates, or ask for a better lease or even ask for a lower rent.
